This exhibit was sponsored by the Utah Arts Council the month of January 2008. Some of the concepts had
their genesis several years ago when my son, Stewart, and I
began experimenting with digital cameras.
Our photographs turned in different directions
than the traditional photography we had both experienced in the
past and a special kind
of Impressionistic style emerged which was a deliberate departure from photographic realism.
Only 6 of the
photographs in this exhibit were created with traditional film and the help of software
manipulation. The rest of the photographs were created with digital cameras
using camera adjustments and "digital darkroom" color and
contrast refinements.
A Catalyst Magazine review said, "The
exhibit, PHOTOGRAPHIC IMPRESSIONISM, is a
deliberate search for techniques to produce spontaneous
impressionistic images to emphasize the emotions with an inner
sensibility rather than visual reality. This diverse
representation of style and technique embraces the central idea
of Impressionism."
