When you first visit the Holy Land, you sense something different about it the moment you arrive. It's a feeling unlike anything you've ever felt before. It's almost like returning to the place of your birth. You see places you've heard about ever since you were a child -- Bethlehem, Bethany, Jericho, Galilee and the fabled city of Gold, Jerusalem. They're all here in the Holy Land of Israel. So perhaps, you really are home.

These photographs represent thirty years and eight extended trips to the Holy Land. During that time I have wandered over the hills of Jerusalem, caught the brilliant sunrise over the Galilee, pushed a truck-bus through the sands of the Sinai.  I've shed tears on a hot August day hiking up an ancient footpath on the Mount of Olives while contemplating the scene of Jesus leading his disciples to Bethany. It has been a humbling experience. My photographs are a poor substitute for the living experience of the Holy Land. I have only tried to capture the emotions I felt, hoping that someone would look beyond the inadequacies of my camera and see the images that stirred my soul.

The purpose of this exhibit is to bring back or create those emotions with the color and movement of Impressionist photographs.
 
THE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM  was a special exhibit of these photographs shown in the Libby Gardner Concert Hall on the University of Utah campus. The exhibit was in conjunction with a choral concert by the Utah Choral Artists featuring music of the cultures of the Middle East -- Islam, Judaic, and Christian. Many of the photos in this gallery were shown in that exhibit.
