ITINERARY FOR TOUR 2008
ALSACE / LORRAINE & GERMANY
Come to our next & final orientation meeting, Saturday, March 1st at 7:00 pm. 1087 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City
June 08   Fly from Salt Lake City to Paris

June 09   Take the Bullet TGV train from the airport to Strasbourg.

June 10   Visit STRASBOURG, with its blend of French and German cultures, unique pink sandstone cathedral, and its charming historic center, La Petite France.

June 11   Pickup rental cars and drive to HEIDELBERG, the famous old university town of the "Student Prince." It is one of the most popular cities in Germany, and the embodiment of German Romanticism.

June 12   Drive to WEIKERSHEIM, part of the ROMANTIC ROAD, which boasts a 12th century belfry, and a baroque palace which is a masterpiece of its period.

June 13   Drive the ROMANTIC ROAD to ROTHENBURG, the best-preserved Medieval walled city in Germany, and an example of Germany's romantic past.

June 14   Visit TUBINGEN, a medieval college town that survived WWII intact. Kepler, the first man to calculate the planet's orbits lived here. Here also is the 16th century Hohentubingen castle situated on a hill.

June 15   Don Thorpe, well known Utah photographer, will join us as our in-house photo expert to demonstrate and advise travel photography skills. We will then drive to our Gite (rental house) in the Colmar area.

June 16   Visit COLMAR, the most beautiful city in Alsace, with spectacular timber framed houses and impressive art treasures. Colmar was one of the few cities deliberately spared the ravages of WWII.

June 17   More of COLMAR.

June 18   We will drive along and visit the WINE ROAD, which has 90 miles of beautiful vineyards, picturesque villages filled with flowers and medieval castles.

June 19   More of the WINE ROAD with a visit to Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg, the most famous castle in the area.

June 20   A revisit to STRASBOURG for more of its charm, and a boat ride on the river. Or an optional drive through the Black Forest.

June 21   Visit OBERNAI, one of the Alsace towns where the Alsatian dialect is still spoken. The town still retains the flavor of the authentic old Alsace.

June 22   Visit NANCY, the royal capital of LORRAINE, with its grand gilded squares and Rococo and Baroque architecture: it was also the birthplace of the Art Nouveau movement, and has many examples.

June 23   More of NANCY

June 24   An extended visit in NANCY for some of its famous museums, including the Historical Museum of Lorraine, and a side trip to the Chateau de Luneville (the Little Versailles of Lorraine).

June 25   Take the train from Nancy to PARIS. Lunch in Paris, and visit the highlights in the afternoon and evening.

June 26   Fly home.
